There are powerful effects that social determinants can have on an individual’s overall well-being, which is why Kedren promotes comprehensive wellness at our Go-To Wellness Center. The center offers health education including medication management, problem solving, skill building, and behavioral modification support groups. Additionally, the wellness center offers social engagement and recreational activities that aid participants in effectively engaging in nature walks, as well as visiting community parks, recreation centers, museums, and beaches. Meditation, book clubs, fitness classes, and performance art are also offered at the wellness center as an alternative to physical inactivity. Wellness services in conjunction with primary and mental health care promotes the continuation of treatment and increases the likelihood of comprehensive wellness.”

San Fernando Valley Counseling Center

The San Fernando Valley counseling Center has been offering low-cost counseling services to the community since 1971. Support groups and individual counseling are both offered.  They are staffed by interns and paraprofessionals. They treat the following:

Southern California Counseling Center (SCCC) was founded in 1966. They have over 180 volunteer counselors, supervisors and board members and a small paid staff. SCCC offers a variety of affordable individual and group counseling to a diverse clientele.

Because SCCC accepts no government funding or insurance payments, anyone can qualify for SCCC services, and there is no restriction on how long clients can participate. SCCC is not required to give clients a diagnosis in order to work with them, and they are able to work from a collaborative, strength-based model that acknowledges the broader context of the challenges a client may be facing. In the absence of government and insurance funding, SCCC relies on client fees, counselor fees, private grants and donations.

Our House

Our House Grief Support Center – The Saul Brandman Center

OUR HOUSE grief support center provides the community with grief support services, education and resources. Since 1993 OUR HOUSE has helped thousands of grieving children, teens and adults as they embark upon their journeys to healing. Support groups and other programs are offered for children ages 4 to 18 years. Group fees are based on a sliding scale. No one is ever turned away due to an inability to pay.

The nonsectarian, nonprofit organization has over 100 professionally trained and supervised volunteers. They also offer grief training for mental health clinicians, the clergy, school personnel and medical and hospice professionals.

At the Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles, the focus of court-ordered counseling may include marital problems, family communication, parenting skills, parent-child conflict, adjustments of childhood or adolescence, step-parenting, divorce, aging, grief and bereavement, career concerns, life transitions, being single, postpartum depression and post-disaster trauma. The focus of group counseling depends upon the client’s needs and includes group parenting skills when needed.

At the Mid-Wilshire Campus, parenting-skill development is divided into specific classes for court-ordered individuals, parents of adolescents, parents of children with disabilities and/or special needs, parents of elementary school-aged children and parents of toddlers. Class materials and lesson plans focus on issues related to these target groups. Separate programs are provided for parents of infants and preschoolers through the expectant/new parents assistance program. The Roosevelt-Bilingual Community Adult School does not have parenting classes for court-ordered individuals, but it does have a general parenting skills development class.

Parent Education prepares parents to apply proven methods in assuring their children’s academic and personal development. Parents are provided with a variety of learning opportunities within a supportive educational environment that may include the children’s participation. Over 50 developmentally structured, topic-focused Parent Education courses are offered.
